he World Sleep Society, an organization founded by the World Association of Sleep Medicine and the World Sleep Federation, says a lack of sleep can cause several problems, including an increased prevalence of natural diseases.
In a press release, the organization stated that patients suffering from obstructive sleep apnea are more susceptible to stroke and heart failure.
Meanwhile, people with insomnia suffer more from anxiety and depression.
Realizing these negative effects, the organization launched the annual World Sleep Day in 2008.
Celebrated every March 17, World Sleep Day aims to generate awareness about the importance of sleep and the consequences caused by a lack of sleep.

This year, the program was celebrated in over 72 countries across the globe.
The Westin Resort Nusa Dua in Bali was an establishment that participated in the event.
Prior to World Sleep Day, the resort encouraged guests and associates to post #sleepstrong moments on Twitter and Instagram.
Moreover, to support the cause, the resort is offering a “bedtime call’ service until April, allowing guests to schedule a reminder for when they should turn-in and power-down to get a good night’s sleep. (asw)
