udget airline AirAsia has just announced its participation in the 29th SEA Games and ninth ASEAN Para Games as an official partner.

As a gold sponsor, the airline stated that it will provide flights for the members of the Malaysia Organising Committee (MASOC).

AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandes said the company is proud to be an official partner of the competitions. “As a true ASEAN airline, we wholeheartedly support the biggest events that bring together the best athletes and the best athletes with disabilities in the region,” he said in an official statement on Monday.

“This also marks the beginning of AirAsia’s deeper, more meaningful involvement in the sports community through our ‘Dare to Dream’ platform, in which AirAsia will support potential athletes from ASEAN and from other regions to fully maximize their potential,” he added.

MASOC head YB Brig Gen Khairy Jamaluddin said, “I am very proud of AirAsia’s continuous commitment and willingness to support the national and regional sports agenda.”  

The SEA Games are set to be held from Aug. 19 to 31, while the ASEAN Para Games are scheduled to be held from Sept. 17 to 23. Both games will be held in Malaysia. This is the sixth time Malaysia has been the host for the SEA Games and the third time it has hosted the ASEAN Para Games. (asw)
