Banyuwangi holds culinary festival with celebrity chef

The people of Banyuwangi regency in East Java are feted with a culinary festival until the end of this week.

he people of Banyuwangi regency in East Java are feted with a culinary festival until the end of this week in an event that began on Wednesday.

Held at Taman Blambangan, the Banyuwangi Culinary Festival 2017 hosts 190 food vendors offering traditional dishes as well as a cooking competition joined by local vendors to present the best version of the iconic pecel pitik, shredded grilled chicken mixed with grated coconut.

Apart from the food, the highlight of this event is the arrival of celebrity chef Juna Rorimpandey, who has expressed his gratitude for the invitation.

He said the friendliness of the people, delicious traditional cuisine and beautiful scenery would definitely increase the number of tourists interested in visiting the regency, which has been dubbed the Sunrise of Java.

“The people here are very nice and the culinary scene is quite unique. The taste and variety of traditional food at this place are very interesting,” said Juna. (kes)
