ow-cost carrier AirAsia Indonesia has recently launched its Airbus A320-200 plane that boasts traditional Indonesian design for its aircraft livery
The plane features wayang kulit (shadow puppets), Mount Bromo and Borobudur Temple illustrations on its body, the three elements that represent the diverse culture, history and tourism of Indonesia, as well as portraying Tourism Ministry’s 10 Priority Destinations.
“Indonesia has many cultures and amazing tourism potential. This special aircraft livery is a form of our appreciation towards the tourism and cultural diversity of this country,” said AirAsia Group CEO for Indonesia Dendy Kurniawan.
This is the second AirAsia plane that showcases the Wonderful Indonesia tourism logo. The first one was launched in May last year using Airbus A330-300 aircraft.

The plane will be rotated around the four AirAsia hubs in Indonesia, namely Jakarta, Medan, Surabaya and Bali. It will also fly to eight international destinations that are included in the company’s 22 international routes.
The ministry's special staff for infrastructure Judi Rifajantoro said this partnership would bring a huge impact on tourism promotion, considering both AirAsia and Wonderful Indonesia have high brand values.
Moreover, AirAsia is said to be the biggest contributor for foreign tourist arrival to Indonesia. In 2016 the company’s contribution reached 26 percent.
“[AirAsia] has been consistently opening up new routes to Indonesia’s main tourist markets, such as Narita – Denpasar and Mumbai – Denpasar routes that were officially launched a few months ago. Soon they will open Kolkata – Denpasar route,” said Judi.
The carrier currently has 221 flight routes, traveling to more than 165 destinations in 25 countries. (kes)
