angurejo Tourist Village in Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta has two interesting sports activities for visitors to try on. One of them is jemparingan (Mataram-style traditional archery), located inthe south of the Tourist Village Secretariat office, on the edge of Telaga Desa. This activity is being supervised by KRT Ali Mustofa and coach Suryadi.

Archers first have to rent a traditional Javanese costume complete with the blangkon (headdress). Then they will be taken to sit on a mat where the males have to seat cross-legged whilst the females have to bersimpuh (to sit with both legs folded to the side). Also, their bodies need to face the south.

“In Yogya style, [the participants' bodies] need to face the south with the target is on the east,” said a guide named Eko.

Apart from jemparingan there’s also a place for pencak silat martial arts called Silat Tradisi Satria Tama available in this village and it has become a member of Pencak Silat Yogyakarta Community.

“Other than being a tourist attraction, pencak silat can also be taught to interested guests,” told Sangurejo Tourist Village head Andi Jayaprana.

Guests at this village are mostly students, however, there was one time 1,000 of PSS Selman supporters came here to do a village clean up activity. For accommodation, visitors can choose to build a tent on a field or stay in a homestay.

“Currently there are eight houses that are ready to host guests, they can accommodate up to 100 people,” told Andi.

The tourist village was established a year ago, and it is located in the southern tip of Wonokerto Village. While on its ninth month, the village took the second spot for the Grow category at the Sleman Regency Tourist Village Festival 2016. (asw)
