An event called Besurek Batik Carnival is set to be held in Bengkulu on Dec. 4 – 6.

The event aims to promote the tourism of Bengkulu and batik from Bengkulu.

“Besurek Batik Carnival has three strategic elements: Introducing the fashion of Bengkulu, reinvigorate the batik industry, creative industry and economy and promoting Bengkulu as a tourist destination,” said Tourism Minister Arief Yahya.

“The dream is to increase the volume [of tourists] and increase the marketing value of local products. We also want to expand the marketing network between Indonesia and overseas countries,” said Bengkulu tourism department head Syarifuddin.

The carnival is going to be held from Simpang Lima Ratu Samban to View Tower.

“Apart from the carnival, there’s also going to be bazaar at Bencoolen Mall, Dol Music Festival, Drum Band Competition, workshop, fashion show competition, kite competition and 1,000 cups of free coffee,” Syarifuddin added.

Moreover, the event will also feature Ethnic Batik fabric, traditional handicraft, souvenir, accessories, batik coloring, tourism and investment.

“The mayor has invited several embassies such as embassies of Iran and Vietnam and they have agreed to attend and participate in the event,” said Syarifuddin. (asw)
