bud's lush forests may not be the first thing that comes to mind when planning a holiday to Indonesia's famed resort island of Bali. 

However, getting lost in the woods and listening to the trickling sounds of the flowing river while comfortably nestled in a luxurious retreat may just be the answer for the perfect escape.

Tucked away among the tall trees of Ubud's jungle, a 90-minute drive north of Ngurah Rai International Airport, sits the COMO Shambhala Estate, a unique accommodation in Bali that offers wellness packages to guests seeking to relax while also making the most of the surrounding nature.  

"Ubud is the art center of Bali. If you really want to experience Bali, then you must come to Ubud," Lucia Denok, COMO Hotels and Resorts' regional director of marketing communications, told the The Jakarta Post during a stay at the COMO Shambhala Estate, also referred to as The Estate.

Sprawled across 9.2 hectares, The Estate is a hidden gem catering to those seeking to see the heart of the Island of the Gods while also having access to indulge in sumptuous spa treatments, delectable healthy meals and invigorating exercises from the comfort of their accommodation.

The Estate boasts 30 rooms across five unique residences, with each featuring four to five units within a cluster.

Boasting a concept of blending in with nature, each residential cluster in inspired by an element -  earth, fire, water, wind and wood - which takes center stage in its architectural and interior design.

Wood-dominant residence Wanakasa, which in sanskrit means mist in the forest, for example, includes a terrace suite in the style of a treehouse, as if planted right in the middle of the tropical rainforest.

Guests are pampered with exclusive access to a pool, personal assistant, common area and study within each residence, as it maintains a homey feel injected with the luxury of impeccable service.

For more privacy, additionally, there are five units of one to two-bedroom retreat pool villas, as well as a three-bedroom private villa.

Inner peace, outer stimulation

Emphasizing health and wellness, The Estate offers wellness programs from a minimum of three nights to two weeks, or longer if preferred. 

Each program is designed with its own focus, ranging from Ayuverdic, Cleanse, Be Active and Bespoke, which would be paired with personal current health status and goals.

With a holistic approach, each wellness program includes a private consultation from which would result in a customized meal plan, exercise programs and spa treatments best suited for each guest. 

Sally Halstead, COMO Shambhala spa manager, emphasized that each of the plans prescribed were individually tailored, covering the various aforementioned aspects, also with the aim of educating toward living well.

"So even if two people come together, they won't have the same thing. Because we're all different. Our constitution is different, what we need is different. So every single plan is totally unique for that person," Halstead said.

Guests are also encouraged to enjoy the outdoors by joining the scheduled activities such as daily yoga, rice field biking and a guided estate walk, which takes guests on a moderate hike around the premises, walking downhill to see a river that frames the complex, a waterfall, as well as the water spring that sits inside property grounds.

The water from the spring is also used throughout The Estate, as waters on the pools and all rooms is non-chemical and drawn from the spring pool through a natural process. 

With its beautiful environment and unique wellness programs offered, guests leave not only feeling rejuvenated but also take home with them the new knowledge to build a healthy lifestyle. (asw)
