The Surakarta administration has added another double-decker city tour bus to its tourist transportation service.

The new bus will complement the Werkudara double-decker bus, which has been operating since 2011, reported tempo.co.

Surakarta Mayor FX Hadi Rudyatmo said the bus would serve as a new attraction for tourists.

"Tourists' interest in exploring the city using the Werkudara double-decker bus has been quite high," he said in Surakarta during an inauguration ceremony on Thursday.

However due to the high demand, opportunity for maintenance for the Werkudara bus is said to be very limited. "Hopefully, the arrival of the new bus will allow a better maintenance for these buses."

Tourists who are interested in using the transportation service can pay Rp 20,000 (US$1.4) for a regular three-hour trip. A tourist group can also opt to rent the bus for Rp 800,000 per trip.

"Fees for this tour bus have been arranged in a regional regulation," added Hadi.

The new bus is said to have been donated by Bank Mayapada's Tahir Foundation as part its corporate social responsibility (CSR) program.

"We have donated such buses to several cities, such as Jakarta, Surabaya and Surakarta," said Bank Mayapada founder Dato Sri Tahir, adding that he hoped the bus would benefit the public.

Alternatively, Surakarta also has a more than century-old steam train named Sepur Klutuk Jaladara that can take tourists to explore the city. (kes)
