ould you go to sleep knowing that you haven’t checked your phone? It depends on the sacrifices you are willing to make for a free stay at a Swedish hotel.

Hotel Bellora in Gothenburg, Sweden is offering up The Check Out Suite if guests can stay away from social media over the course of their stay. The hotel wants to encourage quality time spent with loved ones and experience the world around you, rather than staring at a screen, Travel and Leisure reports.

The room at Hotel Bellora uses a smart lamp to measure how much time you spend on social media, which will later determine how much you pay for the room. The more you use social media, the higher the rate of the room will be.

Hotel Bellora worked alongside Swedish insurance company Länsförsäkringar to create the lamp concept and promote its “Screen Help” concept further.

“The Skärmfri lamp was one way to help, but now we have taken it even further and converted screen time into a currency that rewards a healthy digital lifestyle,” said Lisa Höglund, head of communications at Länsförsäkringar.

Guests can connect their phones to the lamp using the room’s Wi-Fi and from there, the lamp glows white as it measures up to 30 minutes of the recommended time people should be on their phones for recreation, according to studies.

If social media is used for longer than 30 minutes, the lamp begins to glow red, meaning guests will have to pay the full price for the room. But if you don't use your phone at all, you will be charged for nothing.
