The Immigration Directorate General will reportedly reopen passport services next week.
"We’ll probably start reopening [passport application] services to the public next week. The official information will be announced on our social media. Right now we're only catering to [applicants with] important purposes," said the office's public relations and public affairs head, Arvin Gumilang, during a virtual discussion as quoted by kompas.com.
According to Arvin, following the reopening, applicants will not be required to present a letter stating they are free from COVID-19.
"[The requirements for applying for a new passport or renewal] will be similar to prior to the pandemic. However, applicants will still need to obtain such a letter when traveling abroad as part of requirements from airlines and the Transportation Ministry."
The immigration office has been limiting passport application services to the public since April following the COVID-19 outbreak. The services are only open to certain applicants, namely people with an emergency medical condition who must receive treatment abroad based on their doctors’ recommendations and those with certain urgencies.
