AKARTA: Govenor Fauzi Bowo will review the location of Koja Trade Mall, which was built only a few meters away from the would be Koja Baru market in North Jakarta.
"I will study the plans prepared by city market operator PD Pasar Jaya," Fauzi told reporters at City Hall on Tuesday.
"Hopefully, I can complete my review by February," Fauzi said.
The secretary of the City Council's commission for economic affairs, Nurmansjah Lubis, said the Koja Trade Mall violated the 2002 bylaw on private markets.
According to the bylaw, the distance between modern shopping centers and nearby traditional markets should be at least 2.5 kilometers.
The Koja Trade Mall, which was opened Dec. 24 last year, is too close to nearby traditional markets.
It is only few meters away from Koja Baru traditional market, 410 meters away from Lontar market, 600 meters away from Tugu market and about 1.5 kilometers from Sinar market.
