T

he bodies of six Indonesian sailors who were among the victims of a recent ship sinking in the Bering Sea have been recovered, Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said on Wednesday.

Search and rescue teams had previously rescued eight sailors, including three Indonesians from a South Korean fishing vessel, the Oryong 501, that sank in heavy seas in the freezing waters of the western Bering Sea, Russia.

'€œOne hour ago, I received information from the company that owned the vessel that apart from the three survivors, six Indonesian sailors had died and the identification of the bodies is ongoing,'€ she told the press on Wednesday at the State Palace.

The Oryong 501 ship sank in the Bering Sea on Monday at around 12 p.m. It had a crew of 60 on board, including 35 Indonesians. The rest of the crew came from South Korea, the Philippines and Russia, according to the ministry. (***)
