ore than 900 companies from 39 countries will partiScipate in the 19th Electric & Power Indonesia, taking place from Sept.11 through 14 at the JIExpo Kemayoran Jakarta.

Companies participating in the exhibition include Schneider Electric Indonesia, Voksel Electric, ABB, Altrak 1978, Chint Indonesia, Guna Elektro, Himel, KMI Wire, Legrand, MTU, Siemens, Sahabat Indonesia, Tekhnik Unggul Listrindo, Pura Mayungan and many others.

Representatives of several foreign countries and companies, such as from China, Germany, Korea-KEMC, Korea-KOEMA, Singapore, Taiwan (TEEMA) and Turkey, will also participate in the exhibition, which will be held in a 18,000-square-meter area.

Ben Wong, managing director of PT Pamerindo Indonesia, the organizer of the event, said that through the event all stakeholders hoped to promote and expand the role of the private sector in electrifying Indonesia, increase the efficiency of electricity use and its primary energy sources, and find smart solutions to make energy use in Indonesia more efficient, greener and more sustainable.

“Through the event, we’ll also encourage discussions on finding solutions, such as on alternative energy sources, so that we don’t need to worry about the possible shortage of energy sources,” he said.

Heru Dewanto, president of the Indonesian Engineers Association (PII) and chairman of the ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organizations (AFEO), said efforts to find smart solutions should start with the development of human resources. “Part of the PII’s goals is to develop Indonesia’s human resources that will empower the nation in finding smart solutions for its energy problems,” he said.

He added that it was the reason behind the plan to organize the 19th electricity event in conjunction with the Conference of ASEAN Federation Engineering Organization (CAFEO), which will also discuss improvement in human resources’ quality during event.

He pointed out that the conference was more than just an annual meeting. “It’s an honor for the PII to host the CAFEO this year. We’ll take this opportunity to share the experiences and achievements of Indonesian engineers with other participants from ASEAN and Asia-Pacific countries. This event will also stand as a celebration of our achievement in developing infrastructure in Indonesia. I think we should be proud of such an achievement,” he said.

He said the development of power infrastructure in Indonesia, especially for transmission and distribution, was often hindered by geographical and natural conditions.

“With thousands of islands and different conditions on each of the islands, efforts to electrify the country is really challenging. But the government through the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry has realized an electrification ratio of 98.8 percent from the target of 99.9 percent across Indonesia this year,” he said.

Another problem that needs smart solutions is how to improve efficiency in using electricity and raw materials. Eddie Widiono S., the founder and chairman of the Indonesian Smart Network Initiative, said the automation and digitalization of energy could be applied to increase the efficiency of power use and raw materials.

“This can be implemented, for example, by providing customers’ profiles so that power suppliers can adjust their power plants’ operational capacity with consumption patterns,” he said.

Schneider Electric Indonesia said it provided energy automation and digitalization as a solution to improve the efficiency of energy consumption and raw materials, and energy sustainability.

Xavier Denoly, country president of Schneider Electric Indonesia, said the world was changing very fast due to transition in energy and the industrial revolution. “Amid the tectonic change, and the growing problem of climate change and energy sustainability, we provide energy automation and digitalization as a smart solution to improve the efficiency of power consumption, raw materials and sustainable energy sources,” he said.

Xavier said the sustainability solutions covered a wide range of aspects that also included carbonization.

“Now, Schneider has been able to tackle the challenge by offering our premium product of EcoStruxure, an architecture of energy with an IOT-enabled platform to optimize efficiency of power consumption by the customers,” he said.

Voksel Electric director Rudy Yuliarko said that as a leading producer of telecommunication cable and optic fiber, the company supported the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources through its commitment to preventing environmental pollution and occupational safety and health. (*)
