nce entering secondary school, students unquestionably start thinking about what education programme could help them to get a head start in higher education.

Many students who are eager to start exploring their career paths early want more course options that allow them to choose the subjects that fit their interests, potential, talents, and career aspirations.

For this reason, the British School Jakarta (BSJ) has moved forward by expanding its International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme (IB CP) offerings.

While the school previously had only one CP offering, namely the Business pathway in partnership with Pearson BTEC, BSJ will be offering four additional career pathways starting in the Academic Year 2021-2022:

  1. Art & Design pathway with the Savannah College of Art & Design, USA;
  2. Engineering & Aeronautical Engineering pathway with the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, USA;
  3. Bioinformatics pathway with the Indonesia International Institute for Life Sciences (i3L) Indonesia; and
  4. International Sports Management pathway with Federation University Australia and the World Academy of Sport.

The IB Career-related Programme at BSJ will help students design and pursue a Pathway to Passion in their chosen area of academic interests or professional field.

“We are pleased to share with you that in addition to our Business Pathway offering with Pearson BTEC, we have also entered into partnerships with several university partners across the globe and expanded our offerings. Students can now have more options to choose from to suit their passion and career pathway. We are now offering additional pathways in art and design, bioinformatics, engineering & aeronautical engineering or international sports management. These additional new pathways have established our position as the most comprehensive IB CP anywhere in Indonesia,” said BSJ Head of Secondary Deborah Duncan

With more career pathways on offer, BSJ reaffirms its standing as the educational institution with the most comprehensive offering of IB CP anywhere in Indonesia.

“With five IB CP Career Pathways that we are now offering, we can accommodate both students with a particular career interest and for those who are yet to have a specific career pathway in mind.

The CP also helps students develop the social-emotional skills they need to succeed in their future academic or job careers, such as self-confidence and self-awareness as well as flexibility, resilience, and communication – all skills that their future employers will be seeking. They will also become effective learners who can work both independently and collaboratively, with critical and creative thinking founded in a globally aware mindset,” explained BSJ IBCP Coordinator Daniel Hardbridge.

In alignment with IB’s recognition of “the value of building relationships with high-quality career-related qualification providers”, BSJ has jointly developed its IB CP in partnership with highly reputable and qualified institutions.

The Art & Design Pathway was developed in partnership with the world-renowned Savannah College of Art and Design, better known as SCAD in both the academic and professional art world.

The Art & Design Pathway allows students to choose from one of several different career streams, such as Advertising & Branding, Graphic Design, Interactive Design & Game Development and Photography.

The Engineering & Aeronautical Engineering Pathway was developed in partnership with the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University of the United States that specializes in aviation and aeronautics. The Aeronautical Engineering Pathway is delivered in an online format and offers programme streams such as Aeronautics, Aviation Maintenance and Engineering, as well as business administration in the aeronautical profession.

Meanwhile, the Bioinformatics Pathway was developed in partnership with the Indonesia International Institute for Life Sciences, or i3L, “a premium life sciences higher education and research institute” based in East Jakarta.

The Bioinformatics Pathway offers two distinct pathways: Introduction to Computer Science & Bioinformatics and Introduction to Applied Bioinformatics. Each of these pathways has been carefully designed to ensure that students are armed with the necessary skills, such as Linux programming and Bioinformatics Algorithm for the Computer Science pathway, and Molecular & Cellular Biology and Genomics & Molecular Evolution for the Applied Bioinformatics pathway.

The International Sports Management Pathway was developed in partnership with Federation University Australia (FedUni), based in the Australian state of Victoria, and the World Academy of Sport (WAoS), headquartered in Manchester, the United Kingdom.

Students who are passionate about sports and sports management will work with a BSJ mentor during this two-year programme, exploring relevant areas of study such as Sport Development and Sports Performance Management.

For its inaugural Business CP pathway, BSJ had partnered with Pearson, the education publisher headquartered in London, to offer the Pearson BTEC International National Level 3 Business qualification.

In pursuing a Pearson BTEC qualification, students will experience “the breadth and depth” of the business world, such as marketing, finance, and international business, through a rigorous pathway that has been designed to prepare them for entry jobs or further study.

Furthermore, students who complete their IB CP at BSJ will have an opportunity to continue their studies with the partnering universities. If they choose to do so, the CP credit units they earned will be transferred as university credits (subject to university admission requirements).

The IB Career-related Programme at BSJ thus provides students with comprehensive learning and professional skills that can be applied to their future career, whether in the academic or professional sphere.
