View all search resultsThe defendant bought marijuana and cocaine in the Netherlands and brough the remainder of the drugs with him to Bali, claiming he did not know that drugs are illegal in Indonesia.
French man, who also holds a United States passport, can face a maximum of 12 years in Bali prison after bringing drugs onto the island. He told the judge that he did not know that drugs are illegal in Indonesia.
The man, identified as Jeremy Guerrero, 38, has been officially charged under three articles of the Indonesian Narcotics Law during his first hearing at Denpasar District Court on Thursday.
"The defendant Jeremy Guerrero without the right or against the law has planted, maintains, possesses, stores, controls or provides class I narcotics in the form of plants in the form of marijuana," Bali prosecutor Made Dipa Umbara read the indictment.
Dipa said that the defendant has violated Article 111 Clause 1 of the Narcotics Law regarding drugs possession. The article carries a maximum of 12 years prison term.
The prosecutor said that Guerrero was arrested at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport on May 2 with 11.79 gram gross or 8.37 grams net of marijuana.
The defendant was also arrested with 2.32 grams gross or 2.13 grams net of cocaine. Therefore, the prosecutor also charged the defendant under Article 112 Clause 2 of Narcotic Law. The defendant was also charged the defendant with Article 127 Clause 1(a) on abusing drugs for personal use.
Guerrero was arrested by Customs officials at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport upon arrival from the Netherlands. Guerrero was arrested after Customs saw something suspicious in his backpack while passing the X-Ray Machine.
