T

he president director of BRI Sunarso was named The Best CEO at the 2021 iNews Maker Awards, which was held in Jakarta on Wednesday. The Best CEO award goes to a company leader who is able to inspire and lead change in the company to adapt so that it can survive and even excel in challenging pandemic conditions.

In addition to the Best CEO award, Bank BRI also won the Best of The Best Innovative Company award. The two awards were given as an appreciation of BRI's success in innovative strategic steps in business processes and initiatives that had a significant impact on encouraging company performance during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We are very proud to receive this award because it is an acknowledgment of the innovation made by BRI. We certainly hope this award will continue to motivate BRI to continue to innovate and transform so that BRI can grow sustainably and never stop giving the best for this country," said BRI president director Sunarso in his speech.

Having served as the number one person at the largest state-owned bank in Indonesia since 2019, Sunarso is considered to have played an important role in bringing innovation and creativity through the digitalization of BRI’s services. In line with the ongoing transformation program, BRI plays an active role in saving MSMEs and the national economic recovery program initiated by the government in overcoming the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Thank you to iNews for awarding me with the Best CEO award at the iNews Maker Awards. I present this award to BRI employees, BRILLIANT people throughout Indonesia, as well as to all BRI customers, especially MSME players who are struggling to rise in the midst of challenging economic conditions. This award will be a motivation for me personally, to continue to give the best contribution to this country. Since I am the CEO, my main task is to create and deliver value. BRI and I are committed to continuing to provide the best potential in striving to create economic value and social value to all stakeholders," said Sunarso.

The award presentation was witnessed by the executive chairman of MNC Group, Hary Tanoesoedibjo. "Of course, appreciation must be given to institutions and parties who make a positive contribution. But also, [the awards] provide an example to show the public that these ministries or agencies need to be given appreciation, and can be role models later for others," said Hary Tanoesoedibjo.

Previously, Sunarso as CEO was also considered successful in controlling BRI in the midst of economic turbulence. This is shown by the numerous prestigious awards he received. Among them are: Top National Banker in Indonesian Financial Figures 2020, The Best CEO in Banking Transformation at the CNBC Indonesia Award 2020, The Best CEO of The Year in the Sustainable Development Goals Contribution category at the People of The Year 2020 event, Visionary CEO Company Tbk. and The Best CEO Talent Development at the 9th BUMN Award 2020, as well as The Best CEO at the Bisnis Indonesia TOP BUMN Award 2020 event.
