ndosat Ooredoo, the leading digital telecommunications company in Indonesia, has expanded its 4G/LTE services to 124 remote villages. The service expansion is part of the company's commitment to support the government's program to provide 4G coverage across Indonesia and to deploy the 4G/LTE services in 645 remote villages by 2022.

To commemorate the 76th post and Telecommunication Service Day that falls on Sept. 27, Indosat Ooredoo launched a new 4G/LTE site in Ondo-Ondolu Village, Batui District, Banggai Regency, Central Sulawesi. Mamuju and Banggai regencies in Sulawesi will receive additional sites to support the needs of villagers who are increasingly demanding video-grade internet connection. Some of these remote villages include: Pulo Kruet, Tanah Pilih and Jadi Mulya in South Sumatra; Sumare and Taan in Mamuju, West Sulawesi; and the villages of Padang, Sinorang, Ondo-Ondolu and Maleo Jaya in Banggai, Central Sulawesi.

Banggai Regent Amiruddin Tamoreka said during the inauguration of Indosat Ooredoo's 4G service in Ondo-Ondolu Village, that for the past 37 years, the people of Ondo-Ondolu had lived without a touch of digital technology. He said that they really appreciated Indosat Ooredoo’s efforts in providing telecommunication services to the village for the first time.

“We hope that the community can take advantage of telecommunication services positively, so the potential of the village can be maximized for the people’s welfare. Hopefully this will be a good step toward accelerating digital equity in other remote areas,” Aminuddin said.

Arief Musta'in, Director and Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer of Indosat Ooredoo, said the creation of new 4G/LTE sites had been carried out since last August and would continue, reaching 645 remote villages by the end of 2022.

“We hope to provide benefits for rural communities in a sustainable manner through the expansion of the video-quality network, strengthened by a variety of products and services that are simple, transparent, relevant and worry-free,” said Arief.

The government has intensified 4G coverage nationwide, coordinating with cellular operators including Indosat Ooredoo. A total of 3,435 remote villages are still in the 4G network blank spot category, with Indosat Ooredoo taking part in the deployment of 4G/LTE services to 645 of these “blank spot” villages, to be completed in 2022.

Arief said the company was grateful for the support of those who had helped work toward the additional coverage of Indosat Ooredoo's 4G/LTE services in 124 villages, empowering rural communities to reach their potential. He believed digital technology would help local communities connect with other parts of the world, improving their quality of life and well-being.

“We hope that with the 4G/LTE service coverage, Indonesia will be more connected, digitalized, advanced and ready to accelerate digital transformation in all sectors," said Arief.
