P

resident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has expressed his appreciation for the rapid development of Batam, highlighting the progress of several major infrastructure projects in the largest city in Riau province, since the beginning of the year.

“Batam has undergone many changes, and we are optimistic that Batam will continue to grow and develop in the coming months,” he said after a discussion with BP Batam Chairman Muhammad Rudi on Tuesday.

During the meeting, Muhammad Rudi, who also serves as the Mayor of Batam, briefed the president with a progress report on BP Batam’s development program for the next three years, which aims to increase the city’s connectivity, competitiveness and investments.

Currently, Batam is rapidly expanding and improving its infrastructure through several major projects, such as the construction of Terminal 2 at Hang Nadim Batam Airport, expansion of Batuampar Harbor, the widening of major roads from the economic zone from Batuampar Harbor to Hang Nadim Batam Airport, the establishment of Nongsa as a tourism-based special economic zone (KEK) and the construction of a floating solar power plant in the shift to clean energy.

Alongside praising BP Batam’s management and development of the city, President Jokowi promised to pay extra attention to the development of Batam, so as to maintain and increase the overall progress of the plans.
