he Chairman of BP Batam Muhammad Rudi, who is also Mayor of Batam, traveled to Dubai on Wednesday to follow up on Letters of Interest (Lol) from Thumbay Group.
The company had made its interest known regarding investing in the education and health industries in the Special Economic Health Zone, Sekupang, Batam. Muhammad Rudi said, BP Batam was committed to assisting Thumbay Group in realizing its investment across the different sectors.
"For this investment, BP Batam has prepared a land area of 10 hectares to build a health university in Sekupang, Batam," he explained. “We have met with the President Director of Thumbay Group to discuss the investment in Batam’s first medical university.”
He expressed his hope for a return visit from Thumbay Group for a more detailed discussion and that the deal could be realized after the meeting. Muhammad Rudi, along with his staff, received a warm welcome directly from the founder of Thumbay Group, Thumbay Moideen.
"Insyaa Allah, we hope to collaborate with Batam. We hope this meeting is the beginning of a long brotherhood between Thumbay and BP Batam,” said Moideen.
Meanwhile, BP Batam’s Head of Public Relations, Promotion and Protocol, Ariastuty “Tuty” Sirait, added that Thumbay Group was a world-renowned company that exemplified superior service, quality and innovation in the Middle East.
The company is globally known for its integrated areas, including involving education, health care, medical research, diagnostics, retail pharmacy, health communications, retail optics, nutrition stores, hospitality, real estate, publishing, technology, media, events and medical tourism.
According to Tuty, it would be a privilege for Batam to collaborate with the group, as it will increase Batam’s competitiveness on the international stage. Moreover, Thumbay Group has experience with integrated health areas boasting the latest technology.
“We have invited [company representatives] to Batam. We hope this cooperation can be realized concretely.”
She reiterated Muhammad Rudi’s statement regarding BP Batam’s commitment to attracting investment in Batam.
The potential collaboration is also supported by BP Batam Hospital, Afdhalun Hakim, who was also present at the meeting. Speaking from a medical point of view, he said Thumbay Group was an outstanding integrated health leader.
“[It] also has the latest technology in medical science and robotics; […] the progress it has made in medical science is extraordinary,” Afdhalun said.
The integration of health education and hospitals in the Special Economic Health Zone of Sekupang will be the first in Indonesia, bringing Batam onto the world stage.
