elebrating a decade of its annual road race, the Maybank Marathon, PT Bank Maybank Indonesia, Tbk. will be holding this year’s event virtually with the Maybank Marathon Anywhere for the 10K, 21K and 42k categories, to be held on Dec. 11 and 12.
First introduced in 2012 in Bali, the Maybank Marathon has attained a number of achievements, including recognition from World Athletics as an elite road race marathon label. The Maybank Marathon is currently recognized as the only running challenge in Indonesia to boast an international label by an international athletics federation.
Despite the gradual decrease in COVID-19 cases and public activity restriction (PPKM) levels in several regions, the 2021 Maybank Marathon will still be held virtually, allowing more domestic and international runners to participate in the race from various locations.
Maybank Indonesia president director Taswin Zakaria said that highlighting the spirit of “one decade of pushing the limits” speaks about Maybank Indonesia’s consistent efforts for the last 10 years in organizing prominent running events.
“When the pandemic hit the entire running event industry, the Maybank Marathon still held a running challenge series through the adoption of digital technology, from which we have gained positive responses and high enthusiasm from thousands of runners."
For the 2021 Maybank Marathon Anywhere, runners from all categories must complete the running challenge in one time period or a single continuous run on Dec. 11 or Dec. 12.
Participants are required to connect their tracking device to the 99 Virtual Race app to record and check their running challenge, as well as the final results after the challenge period. The 99 Virtual Race app, available for download from App Store or Play Store, is compatible with Strava and Garmin tracking devices.
As part of the Maybank Marathon’s 10th anniversary, participants of the 2021 Maybank Marathon Anywhere who complete their challenge and purchase 10th anniversary-themed merchandise will receive early access registration for the 2022 Maybank Marathon in Bali. Ten male and 10 female best finishers from each category (10K, 21K and 42K) will also receive a free running slot and accommodations for next year’s race.
To celebrate its 10th anniversary, the Maybank Marathon launched a limited-edition running jersey and finisher medals. These items are available for order (during registration) through the 99 Virtual Race App. Runners will receive a special price when using a Maybank credit card or a Maybank virtual account.
“To minimize exposure to COVID-19, we urge all runners to comply with the applicable health protocols when participating in the running challenge. We hope the Maybank Marathon will continue to inspire and motivate runners and the general public to have a healthy lifestyle through regular and sound exercise,” Taswin said.
