ndonesian cultural information portal indonesiakaya.com ’s program Indonesia Menuju Broadway has launched the first online and offline musical theater conservatory in Indonesia.
With a curriculum adapted from first-year classes in conservatories and music schools in the United States, the program began its first term in November.
In the first week, 97 promising young artists enrolled in supplementary classes in stage arts such as acting, vocals and dance, using Broadway standards set by international master teachers. The program also encourages participants to record their progress in a journal.
Renitasari Adrian, indonesiakaya.com program director, said in a statement that the portal introduced participants to local and international instructors from Passport to Broadway on an online orientation day.
“We also gave a rundown on necessary preparations for the online and offline musical theater conservatory program,” she explained.
Renitasari also noted the participants’ enthusiasm during the sessions, saying that the participants appeared to be very passionate and proactive during the sessions and when studying the materials given by instructors.
“We hope that the pandemic can end sooner so participants can meet with the instructors in person under strict health protocols."
Ayu Gurnitha, the program's local dance instructor and alumnus of Indonesia Menuju Broadway 2019, said that at the beginning of the program, the instructors helped students master fundamental techniques that will become their foundation throughout the Online & Office Musical Theater Conservatory program.
“We've specifically tailored the program to further discover and develop their talents as effectively as possible," she said.
Participants also studied video materials provided by international instructors and master teachers such as Amy Weinstein of Musical Theater Performance/Acting, Seth Weinstein of Musical Theater Dance Styles, and Catherine Vaughn of Passport to Broadway before meeting their local instructors for weekly classes on Saturday.
Aside from Ayu Gurnitha, fellow local instructors also include dance instructors Ufa Sofura and Pasha Prakasa, acting instructors Venytha Yoshiantini and Putri Indam Kamila, and vocal instructors Dani Dumadi and Andrea Miranda.
