T Kalbe Farma and PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BNI) have formed a synergy in business development and corporate strategic planning. Kalbe Farma has received a loan facility from BNI to the amount of Rp 1 trillion, which will be utilized for business expansion, including additional capital expenditure and other corporate actions.

The provision of this credit facility was marked by the signing of a credit agreement between head of Corporate Banking Division 1 I Made Sukajaya and president director of Kalbe Farma Vidjongtius, witnessed by BNI corporate banking director Silvano Rumantir and Kalbe Farma finance director Bernadus Karmin Winata at Menara BNI, on Wednesday.

"We are grateful for BNI's support in the provision of this credit facility, which can later be used for business expansion, including additional capital expenditures or other corporate actions. Obtaining this credit facility will directly support the company's business development from time to time in order to meet the health needs of the Indonesian people," said Vidjongtius.

The pharmaceutical industry is one of the industries that has been resilient in dealing with the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. This industry has been able to keep developing its business in supporting the acceleration of national economic recovery and providing drugs, health products and nutrition to meet the needs of the people.

In the year 2021, the sales value of Kalbe Farma reached Rp 26 trillion. In the first quarter of 2022, the company's sales reached Rp 7 trillion, up 16 percent compared with the first quarter of 2021 when sales reached Rp 6 trillion.

BNI’s Silvano said that this was a very good opportunity for BNI to be able to develop the cooperative relationship with Kalbe Farma, which is one of the largest players in the pharmaceutical industry in Indonesia.

The provision of this credit facility is a form of BNI's commitment as a national bank to support the development of priority business sectors, including the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries.

According to Silvano, the trend of national economic recovery strengthened in the middle of this year. The banking industry is maintaining its intermediary function of increasing the leverage of the economic recovery.

As a state-owned bank that focuses on lending to the corporate segment, BNI is currently actively transforming and focusing on lending to top-tier companies in Indonesia.

The health sector, including pharmaceuticals, is one of the leading sectors that is a priority for BNI in terms of business development and credit distribution.

"Of course, apart from this credit cooperation, we will explore greater potential collaboration with Kalbe Farma. As a bank with a digital transformation, of course, there are many digital products and solutions that can add value to us in increasing the synergy of partnerships with Kalbe Farma," he said.
