ndonesia’s major Islamic organizations have expressed solidarity with Iran, backing the country’s call for a unified response to what it describes as military aggression by the United States and Israel, and urging a swift end to the conflict as tensions in the Middle East escalate.
The stance was highlighted in a Friday meeting between representatives of several Muslim groups, including the chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council’s (MUI) advisory council, Din Syamsuddin, as well as chief of Islamic Women Marfuah Musthofa and Iranian Ambassador Mohammad Boroujerdi.
“We hope the suffering endured by the Iranian people, as fellow Muslims, will soon pass,” said Din, who is also a former chairman of the country’s second largest Islamic organization Muhammadiyah. He noted that their hardship should be seen as a shared concern among Muslims.
Din also expressed hope that Iranians would recover and continue their efforts to advance Islamic civilization, highlighting the historical role Iranian Muslims played in shaping Islamic civilization during the medieval period.
During the meeting, Ambassador Boroujerdi called for the launch of a global antiwar campaign, urging support from international civil society, including Indonesian civil society, to apply diplomatic and moral pressure to end the conflict.
“We must continue to speak the truth and not remain silent in the face of injustice,” Boroujerdi said, emphasizing support not only to oppose the ongoing war against Iran but also against aggression toward other nations.
