he South Jakarta Immigration Office found a number of foreign nationals who had violated immigration regulations in a joint operation with the South Jakarta Foreigner Oversight Team (TIMPORA) at apartments in Pancoran and Setiabudi on Feb. 28.
The development was revealed by head of the South Jakarta Special Class I Immigration Office Felucia Sengky Ratna in a press conference at the local office hall on Wednesday.
"Of the six Nigerian citizens who were detained, two individuals with the initials GEN and VUN were proven to have provided incorrect information in obtaining their residence permits. Both hold investor temporary stay permits (ITAS) sponsored by PT TIM but cannot provide information regarding their position as investors or the business being run by the company," Sengky explained.
The remaining four Nigerian citizens with the initials ODE, CJB, FCE and OAN are holders of visitor stay permits (ITK), with three of them having overstayed since 2022. Sengky added that the four foreigners made a living by selling fufu, a typical African food to other Nigerian residents.
Deportation was also imposed on two foreign nationals whose residence permits had expired and were unable to pay their expenses, Indian citizen SAD and Filipino citizen IBW. Firm action in the form of deportation and detention will be imposed on the eight foreigners.
"Based on the results of the investigation we have carried out, GEN and VUN have been proven to have violated Article 123, Letter a of Law No. 6/2011 concerning Immigration. Foreign nationals ODE, CJB, FCE, OAN violated Article 78 in conjunction with Article 122, Letter a, Law No. 6/2011 concerning Immigration as they had carried out activities not in accordance with the designation of their residence permit. Furthermore, SAD and IBW violated Article 78 of Law No. 6/2011 concerning Immigration. We will follow up everything with deportation and deterrence," said Sengky.
In synergy with TIMPORA and the South Jakarta Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda), the South Jakarta Immigration Office continues to maintain security and create a conducive environment in the South Jakarta area.
"We will continue to strive to provide education regarding immigration regulations, both to Indonesian citizens and foreign citizens as well as take action on foreign nationals who commit violations to minimize future immigration violations," Sengky concluded.
