bout 100 employees of state-owned airline PT Merpati Nusantara Airlines grouped under the Federation of Merpati Workers (FPM) is planning to report the company's president director, Asep Ekanugraha, to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
Asep allegedly disbursed the operations director's remuneration of Rp 300 million (US$26,566) without official approval.
"The disbursement was made without approval and after it was made they didn't pay the employees' salaries," FPM chairman Sudiarto was quoted as saying by tribunnews.com on Monday.
It has been four months since 1,641 employees of the airline have received their salaries. Financial troubles forced the airline to halt operations in February. It has promised to pay its workers' backed wages by the third week of May, but workers have little faith the company will follow through.
"The directors can't explain whether in May we will get paid or not," Sudiarto told reporters at the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) faction chamber at the House of Representatives.
"We have suffered for four months. We can't wait until May."
Meanwhile, House member Sumaryoto Padmodiningrat promised to follow up on the report and urged the management of PT Merpati to pay the employees.
"The PDI-P faction will summon the Merpati board of directors. The directors should not run from their obligation because the employees have families. Before Merpati is shutdown, it must pay its employees," Sumaryoto said. (krb)
