HUMI expands its fleet with $6 million oil and chemical tanker, saying it will help fulfill growing methanol demand.
nergy distribution and maritime infrastructure firm PT Humpuss Maritim Internasional (HUMI) announced on Monday that it had received an oil and chemical tanker worth US$6 million to meet the growing market demand for the transportation of methanol, an ingredient for biodiesel.
HUMI president director Tirta Hidayat emphasized the strategic importance of the tanker acquisition for his company.
“The acquisition of the oil and chemical tanker is a key element of the company’s expansion strategy to meet the increasing demand for methanol,” said Tirta on Monday.
According to Tirta, the surge in methanol demand is a direct result of Government Regulation No. 33/2023 on energy conservation, which aims to raise the percentage of vegetable oil blending in diesel oil from 30 percent (B30) to 35 percent (B35).
The growing need for vegetable oil fuel directly translates to an increased demand for methanol.
The growth of the nickel industry, which drives demands for caustic soda and sulfuric acid, has further contributed to the rise in methanol needs.
“These chemicals are crucial for smelters and battery plants in Indonesia,” said Tirta.
