resident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo said on Tuesday that he planned to add Rp 14 trillion (US$890 million) to the Rp 26.68 trillion fertilizer subsidy budget for this year.
"For 2024, I have already spoken to the finance minister to increase fertilizer subsidies by Rp 14 trillion,” he said during a meeting with farmers at Satria Sports Hall in Purwokerto, Central Java, as quoted by kompas.com.
“[That subsidy] must be added to address fertilizer shortages in the field."
Separately, Coordinating Economic Minister Airlangga Hartarto said the government aimed to assist an additional 2.5 million farmers.
He said the Rp 26.68 trillion budget for fertilizer subsidies went to only some 5.7 million farmers.
Airlangga added that fertilizer subsidies had to be distributed promptly and more widely and noted that the president had agreed to increase them.
"The President has agreed to add Rp 14 trillion in subsidies," Airlangga said at his office on Monday, as quoted by tempo.co.
