Revolutionizing retail and manufacturing experiences with AI

T

he widespread adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) has prompted businesses to integrate these technologies to meet the evolving needs of their customers.

These emerging technologies offer tremendous opportunities for CIO’s to transform their business operations through digitalization and drive more value from IT investments and resources.

Concurrently, the exponential growth of data alongside technological advancements has made manual correlation and real-time understanding increasingly difficult for businesses. According to findings from the 2024 ESG AI-Native Requirements for Modern Networks Whitepaper, nearly three-quarters of organizations worldwide have encountered increased complexity in their network environments over the past two years.

Yet only a modest 12% of organizations have adopted AI native networking solutions, indicating significant untapped potential in leveraging AI for network management and optimization.

In the retail sector, procedures heavily depend on wireless connectivity for not only operations but also interactive customer engagement tools. With this reliance in mind, network infrastructure becomes a critical component of conducting their business.

A study from International Data Corporation (IDC) reveals that 83% of retailers are implementing technologies which leverage stores as fulfillment centers, 82% of them are actively adopting AR/VR for mobile customer experiences, and 88% are utilizing Internet of Things (IoT) to enhance in-store contextual customer experiences.

The status quo is what Juniper Networks plans to improve upon with their AI-Native Networking Platform. Recognized as a four-time leader in the Gartner® Magic Quadrant™, Juniper's Enterprise Wired and Wireless LAN solutions are proven to be reliable and effective in retail environments. Juniper's AI-Native Networking Platform, powered by Mist AI, integrates cloud-native innovations for end-to-end assurance and operational efficiency. Retailers can monitor and enforce service-level expectations for Wi-Fi and switching performance in real-time, reducing IT support costs and ensuring uninterrupted inventory logistics flow.

.

Similarly, Juniper’s Marvis Virtual Network Assistant assists businesses by supporting network experts like administrators, site reliability engineers (SREs), and network operations center (NOC) staff. As the first network assistant to introduce conversational AI to networking, Marvis simplifies network operations via natural language interactions.

Juniper's solutions enable retailers to offer real-time wayfinding and guest Wi-Fi services, enhancing the in-store customer experience and streamlining staff operations through automation. By embracing Juniper's Wired and Wireless Enterprise Solutions, retailers can leverage the power of AI to deliver personalized, immersive experiences that drive customer loyalty and revenue growth.

By leveraging the AI-Native Networking Platform to remotely solve troubleshooting processes and optimize hardware efficiency, businesses have shown a decrease of 85 percent in travel time for IT issues, minimizing overall environmental impact.

.

An effective use case of Juniper Networks’ solutions in the retail sector can be seen in the international clothing and accessories company, GAP, resulting in an 85 percent decrease of store visits by its technical staff. By leveraging Juniper’s solutions that enables automated troubleshooting, GAP was able to revamp their in-store connections, making their Wide Local Area Network much more predictable, reliable, and easy to monitor, for both their staff and customers at GAP’s retail locations.

Effective Manufacturing Without Any Downtime

Another critical component of business operations that Juniper Network aims to improve upon, is data centers. Playing a critical role in a multitude of industries, data centers are responsible for ensuring product quality, regulatory compliance and operational efficiency.

Through Juniper Networks’ solutions, such as Juniper Apstra, businesses can streamline the processes in their data centers, improving efficiency and ultimately, costs. It's worth noting that Juniper’s findings shows that organizations who have implemented Apstra have experienced cost savings of up to 90%, accelerated their deployments by 85%, and accumulated a return on investment of up to 320%.

Complementing Juniper Apstra, Marvis Virtual Network Assistant can also similarly help in manufacturing like how it assists operations in retail. Working in conjunction with Juniper Apstra, MVNA can proactively identify anomalies and provide adaptive recommendations to optimize an organization’s network management. Improving troubleshooting procedures through MVNA’s conversational interface that intuitively provides actionable suggestions across the operations of a data center, companies on average can experience a reduction of 85 percent for their operating expenses.

A specific real-life example of Juniper’s help within the manufacturing sector can be found in the operations of Divi’s Lab. An Indian international pharmaceutical company focusing on the manufacturing of active pharmaceutical ingredients (API), Divi’s Lab implements Juniper’s solutions, particularly their networking service titled Juniper EX Series Switches, to maintain their quality control, support their research and development, and streamline their manufacturing processes.

With 100 percent uptime in the last eight years since adoption of the company’s adoption of Juniper EX Series Switches, Juniper Network enables operations over 14,000 square meters of Divi’s Lab’s manufacturing premises housing around 16,000 employees, one of the largest in the world.

Divi’s Lab prides itself on the quality of its products, and relies on Juniper Networks to smoothly produce batches of their API. Especially after the COVID-19 pandemic, the importance of the healthcare industry can not be overstated, and Juniper Networks’ services assist Divi’s Lab in achieving their goals of becoming a reliable, consistent, and agile company that can provide access medication for people all around the globe.

While in the context of Indonesia, Juniper Networks has taken steps in assisting the development of Sinar Mas Land’s BSD City, which is poised to be the country’s very own Sillicon Valley. Providing support in the growth of BSD City’s digital hub ecosystem using a variety of their solutions like Juniper Apstra, Juniper Network is helping Indonesia build its first true smart city.

Safe to say, a dependable and secure network goes beyond mere connectivity and operations; it impacts cost efficiency, user satisfaction, and overall business prosperity. This is the problem that Juniper Networks aims to solve, to create a seamlessly automated network across the globe, free of network issues, security breaches, and application downtime.
