View all search resultsThe Indonesian Filament Yarn Producers Association (APSyFI) accused the government of bowing to “import mafia” interests at the expense of local producers of similar goods who are struggling to survive.
he Industry Ministry reiterated its rejection of a proposed anti-dumping duty (BMAD) on imports of certain Chinese synthetic filament yarn, warning that such a move could trigger mass layoffs of up to 40,000 workers in Indonesia’s textile industry, which relies on the product as a raw material.
However, the decision has drawn criticism from the Indonesian Filament Yarn Producers Association (APSyFI), which accused the government of bowing to “import mafia” interests at the expense of local producers of similar goods who are struggling to survive.
The plan originated from the Indonesian Anti-Dumping Committee (KADI), which in June recommended imposing anti-dumping duties of up to 45 percent on certain products following a year-long investigation.
Trade Minister Budi Santoso rejected the recommendation, citing limited supply of similar products from domestic producers, the decision that is supported by the Industry Ministry.
“It [mass layoffs] would be a national tragedy. Meanwhile, the layoff potential in the upstream industry is far lower as it can be mitigated by local absorption,” Industry Ministry spokesperson Febri Hendri Antoni Arief said in a statement on Saturday.
Febri also pointed to inconsistencies among members of APSyFI, which has been vocal about restricting imports to protect local manufacturers.
According to ministry data, imports by APSyFI members surged 239 percent this year, rising from 14.07 million kilograms to 47.88 million kg year-to-date in 2025, despite calls for protection.
