a Padel, a local sports facility developer focusing on the fast-growing racket sport, has announced plans to build five sports complexes in Greater Jakarta by the end of next year. The complexes will house a total of 45 courts, which the firm claims would make it the country’s largest padel court operator.

The first complex, located in Puri Indah, West Jakarta, and set to feature nine courts, broke ground on Wednesday.

“We are targeting the arena to be operational in December,” La Padel CEO Kevin Audy Lesmana said, as quoted by Kontan.

Padel’s popularity continues to surge in Indonesia, spurring significant investment in court construction and related businesses. First introduced by expatriates in Bali during the pandemic, the sport has since evolved into a mainstream urban trend.

In June, the Indonesian Padel Association (PBPI) reported that Indonesia now has 133 padel courts, with 40 percent located in Greater Jakarta and 30 percent in Bali. Existing clubs such as Padel Pro Kemang and Smash Padel Simatupang report full bookings, especially on weekends.

“Demand for padel courts remains strong and is projected to grow further over the next two years,” PBPI chairman Galih Dimuntur Kartasasmita said, as quoted by Kompas.
