Whirlwinds strike multiple regions in North Sumatra over the weekend

A violent whirlwind also struck four subdistricts on Friday night in Serdang Bedagai Regency, approximately 90 kilometers from Serdang Bedagai, damaging 377 homes and forcing hundreds of residents to evacuate.

owerful whirlwinds struck multiple areas across North Sumatra over the weekend, damaging hundreds of homes and forcing dozens of residents to evacuate to safer locations.

On Saturday at around 4 p.m., a strong whirlwind swept through four villages in Deli Serdang Regency, damaging at least 15 homes in the Pancur Batu and Kutalimbaru subdistricts.

According to the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), 49 residents from 15 families were affected by the storm, with four individuals forced to evacuate to safer locations. No casualties have been reported.

BNPB spokesperson Abdul Muhari confirmed that emergency relief packages have been distributed to those impacted.

“We are collaborating closely with local authorities to expedite the delivery of essential aid to affected residents. We are committed to ensuring that emergency response efforts reach those in need promptly, enabling them to resume their daily lives as soon as possible,” Abdul said on Monday.

He further noted that community members have come together to assist one another in repairing homes damaged by the whirlwind.
