he 2025 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships will take place in Jakarta from Oct. 19 to 25, making Indonesia the first Southeast Asian country to host the international tournament under the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG).
Indonesia Gymnastics Federation chair Ita Yuliati said 501 athletes from 82 countries are slated to compete in 12 events at the 53rd edition of the championship, to be held at the Indonesia Arena, located within the Gelora Bung Karno sports complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta.
“Several world champions will join the tournament, such as Oksana [Chusovitina] from Uzbekistan, who is still competing at the age of 51 and will appear in four events,” Ita said.
Other top names include Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade and the Philippines’ Carlos Yulo. Indonesia will send a team of eight gymnasts, comprising five men and three women.
Athletes are scheduled to arrive in Jakarta on Oct. 13, begin training on Oct. 17, and continue with podium training on Oct. 18. The qualification rounds will run from Oct. 19 to 21, followed by the all-around finals on Oct. 22 and 23 and the individual finals on the remaining days. Each day will feature 10 subdivisions from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
With a seating capacity of 12,000, at least 4,700 tickets will be available to spectators, after deducting seats reserved for organizations and national delegations.
In addition to the championship, organizers will host daily training activities for children and senior citizens as part of a corporate social responsibility (CSR) program, in partnership with the Youth and Sports Ministry and the World Health Organization (WHO).
