T

he government has appointed former Indonesian Military Insurance (Asabri) head Wahyu Suparyono as the new president director of the State Logistics Agency (Bulog) and Marga Taufiq, an aide of president-elect Prabowo Subianto, as the agency’s deputy president director.

The new Bulog leaders replace Bayu Krisnamurthi, who has led the staple food agency for the past nine months.

Furthermore, Purnomo Sinar Hadi has been replaced by Sudarsono Hardjosoekarto, a seasoned bureaucrat and academic, as Bulog’s director of human capital.

Before joining Bulog, Marga, a former military general, served as an expert staff member at the Defense Resources Potential Development Foundation (YPPSDP) of the Defense Ministry, where Prabowo is the minister.

Their relationship extends beyond the current administration. Marga joined Prabowo during Operation Seroja in then-East Timor in 1987 and later became a section head at the Army Strategic Reserves Command (Kostrad) when Prabowo was its commander in 1998.

He was reportedly considered as a deputy governor candidate in the South Sulawesi election in November. However, Prabowo’s Gerindra Party and allied parties under the KIM-plus coalition opted to support the incumbent, Governor Andi Sudirman Sulaiman, and former Makassar deputy mayor Fatmawati Rusdi instead.
