P

ublic Housing and Settlements Minister Maruarar “Ara” Sirait is considering the use of state-owned land, including seized plots and transit spots, for public housing as land acquisition has become a key concern for property development.

“We have coordinated with the Attorney General’s Office, because there is a lot of seized land, and [discussed] how it can be utilized. In addition, there is also a considerable amount of land from the State-Owned Enterprises [SOEs] Ministry, for example [managed by railway operator Kereta Api Indonesia], that could be used to build houses,” Ara said in a statement on Monday, as quoted by Kumparan.

The minister emphasized the importance of support and trust from all stakeholders and of encouraging private entrepreneurs and developers to collaborate in the effort to address the large population without homes in Indonesia.

Ara added that, in the housing development plan, he would seek to prioritize houses for Indonesian Military (TNI) personnel, as well as building livable housing in villages and urban areas.

“The construction of public housing in the city is also very important. If possible, those who work in the city should build high-rises, so that [people] do not need to go far to work,” he stated.
