GoFood’s food trend: Unveiling flavors that took the stage in 2024

2024 was quite a year for foodies, with the number of new viral foods and restaurants making their big breaks. From Philadelphia Sushi to elevated donuts, or the treasured heritage like Gohyong, each brings its own distinct flavors to add to our palette. But amid all these flavors, which dishes really stood out?

The latest food trend report from GoFood unveils the answers of the most popular dishes in 2024 and prediction of 2025's favorites. “We hope this food trend report serves as an inspiration for foodies to explore their culinary experience. And also for our merchant partners to understand the market’s taste buds and appetite better. Whether it is to get creative in new menus or meal package creation, or observing consumer behavior to apply an effective ad strategy on GoFood, we want to help them grow their businesses even further,” said Gojek head of marketing food and ads Ignatius Satrio.

A taste of GoFood’s food trend results

The timeless classic chicken and rice dish remains an undisputed favorite for six consecutive years. Meanwhile, noodles solidified their position as the nation’s go-to comfort food in the budget menu category. In savory snacks, meatballs took the crown alongside ice cream/sundae in the sweet category. GoFood’s food trend also identified the most popular dishes in unique circumstances. Soup became the most popular dish during cold weather, whereas tea is the top-picked dish on sunny days. While for those who opt to live a healthier lifestyle, the choice goes to fruit juices. As for the 2025 favorite, GoFood predicts three dishes that will be trending. Based on the most searched keywords on GoFood, iced Americano is expected to become the new coffee sensation, following its predecessors, which are iced coffee with milk and iced coffee with milk and palm sugar. The other two predicted popular menu items for 2025 are chicken dishes and seblak (a popular dish from West Java made from fried crackers soaked in a flavorful, spicy broth).

Understanding the market’s appetite to stay ahead of the game

Putri Habibie, a passionate home cook and food content creator, acknowledges the value of this food trend report for those in the culinary industry to stay ahead of the game and be creative in delivering food dishes that can cater to the customers’ preferences. “How people choose their food is beyond taste. Their lifestyle has also become one of the most important factors in shaping food trends. For example, the increasing healthy lifestyle trend is also driving the popularity of plant-based and low-calorie menus. While the fast-paced urban lifestyle demands convenience and ready-to-eat meals,” said Putri.
