View all search resultsestlé Indonesia received a visit from the head of the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM), Dr. Taruna Ikrar, MBiomedSc, and his staff on Aug. 4 at the Karawang factory in West Java.
The visit aimed to strengthen collaboration between BPOM and Nestlé Indonesia on food safety, nutritional innovation and the implementation of quality standards and good laboratory practices, so as to serve as a reference for the development of Indonesia’s regulatory oversight system. The two parties also explored their ongoing collaboration to improve the quality of processed food products and consumer confidence in the food industry.
The BPOM delegation was given a tour and a comprehensive presentation on the operating and quality management systems at the Nestlé Indonesia Karawang Factory. As one of the company’s largest production facilities in Indonesia, the Karawang factory produces a variety of products such as powdered milk, UHT chocolate drink and complementary foods that are marketed domestically as well as exported to various international markets.

"We already know that Nestlé is a multinational company with an excellent manufacturing system. Our visit is part of the BPOM authorization function, and we wanted to see firsthand how Nestlé carries out its production processes, ensures regulatory compliance and meets established standards,” he said.
“We hope Nestlé can further enhance its role and contribution as a foster parent [OTA] in improving the competitiveness of processed food MSMEs [micro, small and medium enterprises] in line with the government’s policy direction."
In addition to the on-site tour, the visit also involved an open dialogue between BPOM officials and Nestlé Indonesia’s management team. On this occasion, BPOM conducted monitoring and evaluation on three main aspects of the company’s operations: the implementation of good manufacturing practices for processed foods, the adoption of food production standards and regulations, and the company's risk management program.
Through its visit, the agency aimed to ensure that all production processes at Nestlé’s Karawang factory aligned with the principles of food safety and responsible industrial governance.
Sufintri Rahayu, director of corporate affairs & sustainability at Nestlé Indonesia, said the BPOM visit was a strategic step to strengthen communication and align perceptions in building a healthier and safer food ecosystem.
"We express our deep appreciation for the visit and support provided by BPOM. As an industry player, we believe that open and constructive cooperation with regulators is a crucial foundation for maintaining public trust in our products,” Sufintri said.
“We are committed to producing food and beverages that are not only delicious and nutritious, but also safe and in accordance with national and international standards," she added.

Together, these facilities produce a wide range of products, from milk and beverages to baby and children's food, as well as culinary products. In line with its sustainability commitment, the company also invests in production development and environmental programs, including energy efficiency and carbon footprint reduction.
