P

resident Prabowo Subianto has vowed to rehabilitate thousands of hectares of farmland damaged by massive floods and landslides across Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra. He also assured the public that the government would cover reconstruction costs and maintain food supplies in the affected regions.

During a visit to Aceh on Sunday, Prabowo said he had received extensive reports on the scale of agricultural destruction and stressed that affected farmers would not be left to bear the losses alone.

“Farmers should not worry if their fields are damaged, we will help. Food will be supplied from other regions,” he said.

The President also announced that the microcredit (KUR) debts of farmers affected by the disaster would be written off, citing the situation as a force majeure.

His remarks came as authorities warned of significant damage to irrigation infrastructure in several regencies.

“The situation is concerning. Many rice fields have been damaged. A number of dams, big and small, have burst. Irrigation is very important and will require serious attention,” he said during a limited cabinet meeting on the same day.
