Converse Indonesia has introduced its 2023 “All Star Community” after a pandemic hiatus.
After a years-long hiatus resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, Converse introduced the latest class of its All Star Community at an initiation day at DIKOLAM cafe in Kemang, South Jakarta, on Saturday.
Launched in 2017, the All Star Community is a group of rising creative figures in the arts, sports, fashion and other fields that is sponsored by the footwear company. The first team was formed in 2018 and included athletes and musicians such as local breakthrough rapper Basboi.
“I was first contacted by Converse All Star in 2018 when I was going to get undergraduate thesis counseling with my lecturer,” Basboi told the media at the event.
The rapper went to Jakarta at the company’s invitation and eventually broke through with his debut album Adulting for Dummies three years later. In 2022, he was invited by the Converse global headquarters to represent Indonesia in Paris, where he met famous United States rapper Tyler, The Creator.
“Meeting him was so surreal. It wasn’t even on my bucket list, but still, I was there. I was very grateful,” he said.
The company supports the community through funds for projects and consultations to boost members’ skills and careers. The footwear brand has announced plans to focus more on music-related events in 2023, in addition to other creative activities.
The brand also displayed its 2023 spring collection at the event.
