From iPads to augmented reality and artificial intelligence, schools across the country are harnessing new technologies to enrich their students’ learning.
n a number of classrooms across the archipelago, gadgets and cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) aren’t being shunned; instead they are being embraced as tools to create more immersive and interactive learning experiences for students.
Apple and robotics
At Jakarta Intercultural School (JIS), technology is not just an add-on but an integral part of daily learning.
As an Apple School, JIS has been equipping its students from grades 1 to 12 with iPads or MacBooks since 2013, allowing for uninterrupted learning both inside and outside the classroom.
Advanced tools such as Oculus’ virtual reality (VR) headsets enrich lessons, and younger students particularly benefit from using devices like Sphero robots and Merge Cubes to engaging with programming and augmented reality (AR) experiences.
Coding and robotics are integrated into the curriculum from early childhood to senior high school, with platforms like Tinkercad and Scratch empowering students to explore 3D modeling and coding. A makerspace serves as a collaborative hub for hands-on projects using 3D printers and laser cutters.
Gamification also plays a pivotal role, with Minecraft and Lego Robotics infusing interactive elements into subjects, making learning both enjoyable and practical.
