ustainability with its major pillars, namely economic, environmental and social is considered the key to the future. This is why P&G Indonesia has emphasized sustainable actions under its Conscious Living program as a way to make a real difference in society.

P&G Indonesia revealed its achievement and progress in making concrete changes and positive impacts on the environment and community in conjunction with the P&G Sustainability Summit Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa (AMA).

Procter & Gamble (P&G), a leading global fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) company with a subsidiary in Indonesia, organized the Sustainability Summit, which was themed Hope for Our Home.

Regarding P&G Indonesia’s achievement and progress, the company pioneered the collection of plastic waste, especially multilayer sachets and high-density polyethylene (HDPE) in collaboration with Octopus, an environment-focused start-up, and the West Java administration.

Under the Conscious Living initiative, rolled out in October 2021, P&G Indonesia has collected more than 14 tons of multilayer sachets and HDPE.

The program saw16 million consumers participating in Java. It has involved more than 3,000 conservationists, 50 percent of whom are women who serve as breadwinners of their family.

Thanks to their active participation in the Conscious Living program, the conservationists earn an increase in an income of 18 percent per month.

P&G Indonesia sales senior director and sustainability leader Asrini Suhita said the Conscious Living program was first initiated for P&G Indonesia employees.

“We are pleased to learn that the program has a positive response, which then encourages us to devise the right steps that will have tangible impacts on wider communities,” she said.

“The achievement and progress are evidence that can drive concrete changes to this planet, as well as propel the household economy of the conservationists.”

The program is also aligned with the company’s global 2030 Ambition to create and make collective efforts regarding sustainability in the areas where the company operates.

“In line with the development of P&G and along with the hundreds of consumers from across the globe, we have the responsibility of taking part in carrying out sustainable business,” said P&G Indonesia senior corporate communications manager Devi Nugraha. “Through the integration of sustainability in leading daily business activities in the industry, we continue to realize the mission of being a force for good for the longer term.”

Regionally, P&G has made significant achievements and progress, which are reflected in the company’s commitment to utilizing electricity purchased from renewable energy sources in 85 percent of its factories in Asia, the Middle East and Africa (AMA) by the end of 2022.

P&G revealed that 87 percent of its AMA manufacturers have made use of renewable energy. P&G Indonesia is one of them, with a factory in Karawang, West Java, successfully reducing its carbon footprint by more than 90 percent in 2021.

Zero-waste offices

P&G also has made significant headway in building its first AMA zero-waste office, in Dubai. Gradually, P&G will establish more zero-waste offices in this region.

P&G has also taken further steps regarding sustainability by advocating the Jane Goodall Institute and Roots & Shoots, a program that supports and assists youths as they implement animal-and-earth-related projects in local communities.

“Looking ahead, P&G Indonesia will be continually committed to expanding the outreach and impacts of Conscious Living in accordance with our strong commitment to becoming a force for good for the environment and the community,” said Asrini.

P&G is also aware that the environment is a shared responsibility and as such, the company continues to open the door for collaboration with any parties that have similar goals.

For P&G, sustainable actions speak louder than words.
