ccording to Finance Ministry data, women business owners dominate 53.76 percent of MSMEs in Indonesia, contributing up to 61 percent to the economy. Consequently, there is a strong need to ensure that women business owners no longer face barriers to ensuring their businesses stay afloat. Current challenges include a lack of mentorship and access to long-term cooperation.

Procter & Gamble (P&G) is collaborating with WEConnect International to solidify its commitment to support diversity, inclusion and gender equality through a program named ANJANI - Women Business Players #ReachYourSuccess. The program, now in its second year, aims to eliminate obstacles women entrepreneurs face through sustainable steps and advocacy. ANJANI will allow them to connect and participate in a series of mentorships and development programs focusing on business growth, branding, leadership skills and human resources led by experts from within and outside P&G.

WEConnect International and P&G seek to integrate women-owned businesses into the company's ecosystem of external partners. And along with the P&G Women Entrepreneurs Academy launched worldwide, ANJANI will play an invaluable role in propelling local businesses to the global market. P&G's efforts to establish women-owned enterprises as third-party partners also demonstrate its commitment to last year's #WeSeeEqual declaration. With #WeSeeEqual, P&G promised to spend 200 US dollars to collaborate with women-owned brands throughout the Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa by 2025.

Research by the World Economic Forum proved a positive correlation between gender equality and a country's competitiveness, gross domestic product (GDP) per capita and a country's ranking on the Human Development Index. Accordingly, ANJANI is expected to positively benefit clients, professional networking, women entrepreneur communities and ultimately national economic growth.

Following the Group of 20 (G20) and Women 20’s (W20) plan to bolster the participation of women in the economy, P&G also believes that through collaboration between private sectors, NGOs and other institutions, Indonesia will be able to navigate the impact of the post-pandemic recovery period.

"Equality and inclusion are a fundamental part of P&G. P&G believes supporting women entrepreneurs is critical to Indonesia's economic growth and recovery. That's how we develop market-leading brands and how we lead our community and industry." Said LV Vaidyanathan, president director of P&G Indonesia, at this year's ANJANI closing ceremony.

"Through ANJANI, we will keep making an effort to promote gender equality to build a smarter economy. We also believe that with ANJANI, we can strengthen [women’s] skills, develop their businesses and positively impact the community on a broader scale. That is in line with our mission at P&G Indonesia to always be a force for good, force for growth." He added.

"We are always happy and enthusiastic to partner with P&G. With a common long-term goal, we trust that this partnership will be a sustainable effort to eradicate the gender and economic gap faced by women in Indonesia. This ANJANI program is a manifestation of P&G's serious commitment to endorsing diversity, inclusivity and gender equality. That has been proven throughout WEDP P&G and WEConnect International’s collaboration that have helped more than 300 women in 14 countries including Indonesia, Singapore, Japan, India, UAE and more." Remarked Mrinalini Venkatachalam, regional director of Southeast Asia and Oceania at WEConnect International.
