s part of the Road to G20 series, The Jakarta Post will be taking a closer look at the national transition to green energy through an upcoming JakPost Up Close webinar.
To be held via Zoom and broadcasted online on YouTube on May 24, the 42nd edition of JakPost Up Close aims to shed light on the intricacies of the transition, including the main challenges of energy transition in developing countries, key technologies to reduce fossil fuel dependence, as well as the financing mechanisms for energy transitions.
For Indonesia, a sustainable transition toward green energy is one of three key focuses of its Group of 20 presidency along with global health architecture and digital transformation. The G20 itself plays a critical role in accelerating the energy transition. G20 member countries represent around 90 percent of global gross domestic product (GDP) and 80 percent of global carbon emissions.
During the G20 forum this year, the energy transition working group (ETWG) is focused on three priorities: access, technology and funding. Indonesia aims to produce a clear scenario and roadmap with the forum, including on funding and investment for developing countries.
At the same time, the decarbonization process must also be affordable, reliable and widespread, especially to account for communities in frontier, outermost and least-developed (3T) regions that already face difficulty gaining access to energy in the first place.
Joining the webinar will be an expert panel of speakers, including PLN president director Darmawan Prasodjo, Schneider Electric Cluster Indonesia and Timor Leste president Roberto Rossi, Asian Development Bank (ADB) Indonesia country director Jiro Tominaga, and PT. Mitsubishi Power Indonesia president director Kazuki Ishikura.
Additionally, Coordinating Economic Affairs Minister Airlangga Hartarto and Business 20 (B20) Indonesia chair Shinta Kamdani will be providing keynote speeches.
