Kemenkominfo holds Startup Gathering Road to HUB.ID Summit

T

he acceleration of digital startup growth in Indonesia continues. The Communication and Information Ministry (Kemenkominfo) is at the forefront of digital transformation as the global landscape has become increasingly competitive. According to a Startup Ranking report, the number of startups in Indonesia in 2022 will reach 2,634, thus ranking it fifth in the world after the United States, India, the United Kingdom and Canada.

Seeing the apparent potential, it is unsurprising that domestic digital startups are under constant encouragement to expand overseas and attract global investors. In line with these goals and targets, Kemenkominfo, via the directorate of digital economy and directorate general of informational application, will hold a conference and business meeting at the 2022 HUB.ID Summit from September 5-6 in Bali.

Last year, the ministry successfully ran a HUB-ID accelerator program which facilitated 43 digital startups with a focus on business matchmaking. The program aimed to grow these businesses and scale them up, producing three graduate startups that have now received funding and created more than 100 potential new business partnerships involving 47 partners within the HUB.ID network. The 2022 summit is expected to create bigger opportunities for domestic start-ups to receive funding from global investors.

“The 2022 HUB.ID Summit is a business gathering for digital startups, local and global venture capital companies, industries, ministries and other institutions, state-owned enterprises and business partners. This event aims to introduce Indonesian digital startups to local and overseas investors so that they can compete on the global stage," said director general of informational applications Semuel A. Pangerapan.

To prepare for the peak of the 2022 HUB.ID Summit, the directorate of digital economy and directorate general of informational application, Kemenkominfo, held the event, Startup Gathering Road to HUB.ID Summit, on Wednesday in the Sudirman area of North Jakarta. The pre-event’s purpose was to encourage participants of the startup development program to attend the 2022 HUB.ID summit according to the director of digital economy, directorate general of informational application I Nyoman Adhiarna.

““HUB.ID Summit is welcoming participants in the Kominfo digital startup development programs to promote, network, meet investors and business partners and upscale their businesses. The public is also welcome to attend this event via Zoom,” said I Nyoman Adhiarna.

With this event, Kemenkominfo hopes that the participants of HUB-ID can grow into national unicorns following Indonesia’s most valued digital startups. Kemenkominfo’s role extends beyond the regulatory, which means it also acts as a facilitator that prepares entrepreneurs to navigate the era of digital economy. "I hope that startup participants who take part in this event can become domestic technology producers who are able to bring back new unicorns and decacorns in Indonesia," added Semuel.

Also attending the Startup Gathering Road to HUB.ID event were the head of the digital-startup business matchmaking-facilitation team, Luat Sihombing, and Impactto's strategic partner, Italo Gani. Together, they outlined the HUB.ID summit activity plan, including policies, sector division, criteria for digital startups that are expected to participate as well as venture-capital companies attending the summit

"The focus of the startup sector that we hope to join in HUB.ID includes enterprises, government tech, agritech, healthtech, social commerce, SME enablement and web 3.0. In this event, we also aim to curate eighty tech startups and attract fifty investors and business partners," explained Luat Sihombing.

Italo Gani, as strategic partner of Impactto, said that HUB.ID expects attendance by a variety of startup types and investors, including angel-invested startups, pre-seed/seed round startups and pre-series A startups. "We hope that participants have prepared supporting data in the pitch deck such as business model solutions, traction, founder profiles, projections, milestones and allocation of required funds," he said.

Information about HUB.ID Summit activities and registration steps can be found through the @hub.id and www.hub.id social media channels.
