o prepare runners ahead of the Maybank Marathon 2022 in Bali, PT Bank Maybank Indonesia, Tbk kicked off the Road to Maybank Marathon in GBK Senayan on May 22.
The Road to Maybank Marathon 2022 consists of a series of activities that will last for twelve weeks, starting from May and continuing until the first week of August. They consist of training programs ranging from warm-up sessions to long-distance running, long run, running clinic, guidance on nutritional intake and rest periods.
The programs involve experienced coaches, doctors and experts in recovery and mobility-related sports namely cardeo-physiotherapy and pilates. The event also introduced 35 pacers who will be tasked with guiding and maintaining the pace of the Maybank Marathon runners to help them reach their targeted finish times. All pacers had First Aid training in order to handle emergency situations at the Maybank Marathon 2022.
“As the first and only elite label road race event in Indonesia, we apply international standards to the Maybank Marathon running event. One of them is by emphasizing to the participants the importance of practice and preparation before participating in Maybank Marathon through Road to Maybank Marathon 2022 activities. Like the Maybank Marathon held in previous years, the Road to Maybank Marathon activity is an essential for runners to participate in, as it proritizes the health and safety of the runners,” said Maybank Marathon project director, Widya Permana.
Outside Jakarta, Road to Maybank Marathon 2022 is also held in major destinations including Medan; Bandung, West Java; Surabaya; Makassar; and Bali with a total of 25 running communities from each city.
The Maybank Marathon 2022 will be held on Aug. 28 with the starting location of Bali Safari & Marine Park, Gianyar, Bali. This year, the Maybank Marathon will commemorate the marathon’s ten-year run since its introduction in 2012.
The Maybank Marathon is the only marathon event in Indonesia that gained a certification from World Athletics, previously known as the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). In 2020, the Maybank Marathon became the first and only marathon event in Indonesia with the “Elite Label” from World Athletics. In addition, the Maybank Marathon is also the only marathon event in Indonesia that is included in the World Athletics calendar and the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) in the greater “road running” category.
"We hope that the series of Road to Maybank Marathon activities can prepare and provide insights for fellow runners as they prepare for the competition while remaining in good health, and facilitate each running participant to achieve a personal best," Widya concluded
