o realize its mission of constructing a concrete national digital ecosystem, the government through the Communications and Information Ministry continues to make various strategic efforts to accelerate nationwide digital transformation. One of them is organizing the HUB.ID Accelerator 2022 program, which officially opened on Saturday on hub.id and will close on July 10.

Attending the press conference on Monday were the director general of informational applications, Semuel A. Pangerapan; informational application director general I Nyoman Adhiarna; as well as the COO and portfolio director of MDI Ventures and the head of the digital-startup business matchmaking-facilitation team, Luat Sihombing. According to Semuel, HUB.ID Accelerator 2022 was set to accelerate digital transformation through the development of a digital ecosystem that encompasses three vital components: infrastructure, support from regulation and qualified digital talents.

“All the digital technologies that are available around us are [worked on] by digital industry players from within the country. We are proud to encourage the spirit of digital entrepreneurship among young people, as shown by the increasing number of growing digital startups," said Semuel.

The Communications and Information Ministry as the leading stakeholder in digital transformation not only holds the role of the regulator but also of the accelerator. In that regard, the ministry will need to be able to prepare the public to live in the era of the digital economy through various digital literacy programs, technology adoption in strategic sectors and support for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) as the backbone of Indonesia’s digital economy.

“In 2022, the Communications and Information Ministry will continue to hold the HUB.ID Accelerator program to focus on increasing the synergy, collaboration, business cooperation and investment for digital start-ups to increase business matchmaking with state-owned enterprises, private corporations and investors. For now, we’re facilitating 25 digital start-ups in various stages, from seeds to A pre-series. We will be launching several programs in HUB.ID Accelerator 2022 by determining the needs of both sides: from the start-ups themselves and business partners and investors,” said I Nyoman Adhiarna.

The digital start-ups joining the HUB.ID Accelerator programs are mainly businesses that focus on financial services, business-to-business and enterprise solutions, logistics and supply chains, SME-enabling, and the agri- and aquacultural sectors

Since its first edition in 2021, HUB.ID has involved 43 digital start-ups and 47 partners from cooperatives and state-owned enterprises (SOE). That year, the Communications and Information Ministry successfully created 100 business collaborations, 30 new business partnerships and two investments.

"HUB.ID is expected to be an ecosystem where digital start-ups meet with business partners and investors. It aims to help strengthen digital start-up businesses to be sustainable through a series of business meetings within the HUB.ID networks" added Luat.

In this opportunity, the Communications and Information Ministry is coordinating with MDI Ventures as a strategic partner.

"The bubble burst phenomenon that occurred after the COVID-19 pandemic was also observed in conventional [sectors] such as banking as a result of the presence of digital banks. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen business partnerships between digital start-ups and investors by conducting business analyses on investments. And HUB.ID Accelerator is a place where start-ups can showcase their products and business in front of many stakeholders in the HUB.ID Accelerator network. The business meetings can be a tool to validate digital start-ups’ business strategies for future improvement.”
