T Computrade Technology International (CTI Group) announced that it will be holding an offline edition of its annual CTI IT Infrastructure Summit on March 9 at Tribarta Darmawangsa, South Jakarta. This year, the summit’s theme will be The Metaverse: Why Your Business Needs to Prepare by Now?, introducing the emerging technology’s potential for Indonesian businesses.

Supported by CTI IT’s partners -- consisting of leaders in the tech industry as well as Metaverse experts -- the CTI IT Infrastructure Summit 2023 will be highlighting the business value that Indonesian companies can gain by leveraging the Metaverse.

“We hope that the Summit will provide fresh new insights and inspire companies to adopt, explore and experiment with the Metaverse. Soon, they will be following the footsteps of top global companies that have incorporated the Metaverse in their business operations, improving their business value and performance in the long run,” said CTI Group director Rachmat Gunawan.

According to data from McKinsey, more than US$120 billion was invested in building Metaverse’s technology and infrastructure in the first five months of 2022 -- twice the sum of $57 billion invested the previous year. This demonstrates the optimism in Metaverse’s potential to create new revenue streams for companies across the world.

But despite the growing number of companies tapping into Metaverse’s potential, businesses must remain aware of the challenges they might face, including the readiness of their human resources, interoperability issues between separate Metaverse platforms, data privacy and security and related regulations.

“Every new business opportunity like the Metaverse will always pose new challenges, such as cybersecurity issues. Businesses need to put proactive measures such as identifying and mitigating potential vulnerabilities at the forefront to protect the platform, channel, edge and user data and digital identity from virtual attacks,” said Palo Alto Networks country director Adi Rusli.

“The CTI IT Infrastructure Summit 2023 will present the perfect opportunity to increase the awareness of businesses and help them prepare in navigating the challenges they will face when adopting the Metaverse,” he added.

Furthermore, businesses must also take note of the different supporting technologies that work together to create the Metaverse’s virtual landscape. There is blockchain and web3.0, which creates a more decentralized economy, 5G services that improve internet speeds and with a lower latency enables remote devices to stay connected when processing data, as well as other supporting technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and augmented reality/virtual reality (AR/VR).

“The technological advancements needed to develop the Metaverse exists on several layers. Firstly, we need AI, cloud and Internet of Things [IoT] to create a model of the virtual environment on various devices. Then, technologies like long-distance rendering and data analytics will enable that environment to look closer to its real-world counterpart. Finally, AR and VR will help connect the physical and virtual worlds with services such as virtual navigation and customer service,” explained Alibaba Cloud director of solution architect Indonesia, Eggy Tanuwijaya.

Another highlight of the CTI IT Infrastructure 2023 is the iCIO Awards 2023, which showcase chief information officers (CIOs) and senior IT staff whose contributions in the industry have been proven to drive innovations and propel the growth and performance of their companies. The award is also bestowed on chief executive officers (CEOs) who have demonstrated their leadership skills in digital transformation.

Three CIOs and one CEO will be nominated for four categories: The Most Innovative CEO, The Most Influential CEO, The Most Influential CIO and The Most Inspiring CEO.

“Events like these are important in driving Indonesian companies to accelerate their digitalization, while also showcasing the agility of developing countries in digital transformation,” remarked iCIO Awards judge for the CEO category and former energy and mineral resources minister Ignasius Jonan.

The CTI IT Infrastructure Summit 2023 will be supported by leading companies in information and technology, such as Huawei, Hitachi, SOCradar and Tencent Cloud. The event will also feature talks from Metaverse experts such as Avium cofounder Nathaniel Liem, Accenture for Indonesia country managing director Jayant Bhargava, and WIR Group’s brand engagement and metaverse strategy director Almira Shinantya.
