ndonesian menswear designer Temma Prasetio has collaborated with men’s grooming clinic MEN/O/LOGY by Zap to bring traditional handwoven tenun from East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) to a global fashion audience in the upcoming Dubai Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2023.

To be held on March 11, the upcoming showcase is Temma’s first international fashion show, and will juxtapose the rich tradition behind the tenun with a relaxed and modern take on menswear.

The collection, titled INHERITANCE, pairs the traditional textiles with fabrics like twill, wool, chiffon and organza for a modern yet unique look that combines a simple yet bold aesthetic with a touch of cultural heritage.

With support from LeViCo Butik and Pronto Moda, the pieces include jackets, oversized coats, boxy tops, as well as loose fit and baggy trousers paired with shoes by Brodo.

Throughout his career, tenun has been a signature design element for Temma Prasetio, who has learned the creation process directly from the artisans in NTT. He also mentored young designers from the province in collaboration with the East Nusa Tenggara Handicrafts Council (Dekranasda).

After showcasing his designs in the stages of Jakarta Fashion Week and Indonesia Fashion Week, Temma will continue his mission to highlight traditional NTT textiles and the richness of Indonesian cultural heritage on an international stage.

“Dubai Fashion Week 2023 will be my first international show. Introducing tenun from East Nusa Tenggara to the Middle Eastern and international market is my main mission. I want the world to know the richness of traditional Indonesian textiles that are crafted with love and dedication,” Temma said during a private preview event at MEN/O/LOGY Pondok Indah in Jakarta on Thursday.

Temma also expressed his gratitude for MEN/O/LOGY’s support in realizing his first international show, noting that he shared the same vision with MEN/O/LOGY of breaking down the stigma around men’s appearance and grooming. When he started his career in fashion a decade ago, he continued, the public perception was that men were required to be masculine and not care about their appearances.

“The collaboration between MEN/O/LOGY and Temma has the same goal, which is to encourage men to care more about themselves while becoming more comfortable and confident in their own skin. This is in line with MEN/O/LOGY’s own value, where men have to be confident in expressing themselves without forgetting their masculinity,” says MEN/O/LOGY cofounder Bambang Reguna Bukit.

Bambang, who goes by his nickname Bams, explained that this shared vision was manifested in a special look that embodied the amalgamation of the MEN/O/LOGy brand with Temma Prasetio’s own design language, which would serve as the closing look for the upcoming show in Dubai.

“MEN/O/LOGY is pleased to be part of this collaboration. Temma Prasetio is one of Indonesia’s most gifted menswear designers, who proudly champions Indonesian culture. This shared mission in redefining masculinity also serves as the background for our desire to introduce MEN/O/LOGY on an international level,” he concluded.
