Tracing continuity of sustainable palm oil products in Yogyakarta PHRI Yogyakarta initiated the use of CSPO in its aspiration in becoming a leader in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals on Friday.

Indonesia’s heart vibrates within the manifestation of higher agricultural standards.

In calibration with their commitment to support the province of Yogyakarta, PHRI BPD Yogyakarta emphasizes itself once again as a pioneer of local government. To trace continuities of holding sustainability aspects to achieve one of Sustainable Developments Goals (SDGs), they aim to utilize their palm products and derivatives to be produced with cohesion and trusted reliability.

Held in the Alana Yogyakarta Hotel and Convention Centre, members of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) Yogyakarta Regional Leadership Agency (BPD) Yogyakarta opened a Buka Bersama (breaking of the fast) event today.

“Yogyakarta’s tourism industry must be at the forefront of sustainability,” said chair of the DIY Regional Tourism Promotion Agency (BPPD), GKR Bendara.

The philosophy of Memayu Hayuning Bawana is particularly the local wisdom that resonates with GKR Bendara.

The Memayu Hayung Bawana unfolds itself as an illustration to how humans have obligations to maintain the harmony of the universe which was believed to be inseparable from the relationship of beings with God, the entanglement of human beings and human relations with the natural environment, all that surrounds us.  All that is one.

However, it can be maintained.

By preserving nature, the relationship between humans and their earthly surroundings will bring great promises because once nature is disrupted, humans cannot live well. By using palm oil products produced in an ethical method, “this is one of the ways PHRI Yogyakarta can implement this philosophy of life simultaneously supporting the local government policies that are increasingly environmental, socially, and welfare-oriented,” conveyed GKR Bendara.

As an organization that is oriented toward the development and improvement of tourism, the PHRI dreams to carry our national development by demonstrating a unifying forum to strive in creating a business climate that concerns the dignity and status of entrepreneurs engaged in tourism, hospitality and food and beverage. Of course, for it to always continue to blossom, the education institutions require an uplift as well.

“Domestic and foreign tourists are increasingly aware and understand subjects related to the environmental and sustainability issues,” said chairperson of PHRI Yogyakarta, Deddy Pranowo Eryono.

According to Deddy, tourists cater to their own preferences and would prefer to use products that are aligned with the business principles. When there are more parties involved in giving efforts to elevate industries’ sustainability, it will produce the betterment for Yogyakarta to grant their consumers’ needs.

This occasion brought light to the series of activities to mainstream the use of certified sustainable palm oil (CSPO) products in the tourism industry within Yogyakarta especially within hotels and restaurants which includes increasing understanding and awareness of members within PHRI Yogyakarta and stakeholders related to CSPO, the use of CSPO RSPO products, and lastly the consumer campaigns related to the use of CSPO products.

This business sector is a treasure to find various products made from palm oil.

Through the use of cooking oil and margarine in presenting the most delightful food in restaurants, today’s hospitality is also following their footsteps. Making it as its main raw material, the use of palm oil has successfully manifested itself through hotel’s soap, shampoo and toothpaste.

Explained by PHRI Yogyakarta together with the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), these two types of businesses largely consume palm-based products such as cooking oil, margarine, soap, shampoo, toothpaste and  many more.

Also attending was deputy director of the RSPO’s Market Transformation, Mahatma Windrawan Inantha, who expressed his gratitude towards PHRI Yogyakarta for embellishing their faith that is manifested through a shared commitment of using sustainable palm products.

“The RSPO fully supports this as one of PHRI Yogykarta’s strategic partners to increase the sustainability of the Yogyakarta tourism industry which is sustainable,” said Mahatma.

Here we can see that this newly rolled journey brings the stage for various members of PHRI Yogyakarta to share their personal touch on the significance of implementing sustainability within the angles of tourism to gain competence within a global bound.

It is about time, as Mahatma would say, “for the sustainability angle to become a strategy in the tourism industry that brings relevance towards businesses in responding to the needs of their consumers who are becoming concerned regarding environmental and social issues.”

The RSPO further supports this value as one of PHRI Yogyakarta’s strategic partners to increase the sustainability of the Yogyakarta tourism industry, which lies within the cosmic power of sustainability.

Of course, centering ourselves back to a place we call home, it is with hope and confidence that the Indonesian tourism industry will prioritize environmental sustainability and the betterment of social practices, to be implemented within business practices.

All this is in the hope to transition not just within Yogyakarta, nor our nation, but the world in using palm-based raw materials that will elevate industries to become a pioneer in using CSPO products.
