Financial service company PNM holds Leaders Forum & Excellence Award 2023

s technology develops and business practices transform, companies must also grow and stay abreast of the most recent trends to remain relevant.

In addition to the equally important principle of Good Corporate Governance (GCG), other keys to maintaining business relevance are a development strategy that fits the nature of a company as well as a leader with the appropriate style and skillset that continues to develop over time.

Aside from research showing that a good leader can increase the wages of each employee on their team by up to 27 percent, increasing leaders’ skillsets is imperative to deciding a company’s direction.

Taking this into consideration, PT Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM) has initiated a unique approach to upskilling its leaders across the spectrum of the organization by holding the Leaders Forum & Excellence Award 2023 on May 9. The hybrid event was attended by over 250 offline and 25,000 online participants, representing the PNM leadership across the company’s branch offices and divisions, as well as its subsidiaries and affiliates.

The event started with opening remarks from PNM operations director Sunar Basuki, followed by a discussion presented in a “talk show” format featuring Ignasius Jonan, a former energy and mineral resources minister (2016-2019) and former transportation minister (2014-2016), alongside PNM president director Arief Mulyadi. The insightful discussion presented an overarching consensus that good leaders were those who understood that companies needed to be customer-oriented to be successful.

.

“What I see in PNM is something that needs to be developed continually, a company culture that focuses on the customer,” Ignasius told the discussion.

“I’m confident that PNM’s Mekaar program can expand to 14 million customers, and will be partly [funded] by the community that has been given new financing opportunities because of the program,” he added.

Arief added to the discussion by describing how a leader was not someone who stood above the team, but someone who sat with and embraced their team. This was based on his observations throughout his long tenure at PNM, from his humble beginnings as an account officer up to his current role of president director.

“In PNM, when we feel joy, its shared between all of us, just like when we experience sadness,” he said.

Toward the evening, the event became livelier with the 2023 Excellence Award, a prestigious recognition of PNM employees’ performance. Many leaders from the company’s regional branches and offices across the archipelago were bestowed awards in a number of categories, including Best Corporate Social Responsibility Implementation, Best GCG Implementation and Best Work Unit.

The awards are a form of PNM showing its appreciation to all employees, and are hoped to give greater motivation for employees to improve their performance.

The company also hopes the awards will serve as a catalyst in inspiring other PNM members to strive to become their best selves and grow the company further. The PNM’s initiatives in developing its human resources, such as the Leaders Forum & Excellence Award, are integral to enhancing employee performance and can be used as a strategic template by other Indonesian companies.
