Astra inaugurates ASTRAtech’s new Delta Silicon campus

A

stra, through Astra Bina Ilmu Foundation (YABI), has inaugurated ASTRAtech vocational college’s new campus at the Delta Silicon industrial park in Lippo Cikarang, West Java.

The new campus is a real manifestation of Astra's contribution to Indonesia’s education sector.

Held on May 22, the inauguration ceremony was attended by Warsito, Deputy Coordinating Minister for Education Quality Improvement and Religious Moderation at the Office of the Coordinating Human Development and Culture Minister, Astra President Director Djony Bunarto Tjondro, as well as Astra directors and Astra Group executives.

Astra President Director Djony said vocational education had an important role in creating highly skilled human resources that were ready to enter the workforce.

“ASTRAtech's new campus is expected to continue to improve on its achievements to become a polytechnic educational institution that produces human resources that are not only competent, skilled and superior in line with industry and labor needs, but also possess a high work ethic, enthusiasm and aspirations in generating progress for Indonesia,” he said.

Occupying 5 hectares, the new ASTRAtech campus has a building area spanning 22,451 square meters (sq m) across three floors that can accommodate up to 2,000 students in its workshops, laboratories and classrooms.

The campus is also equipped with an eight-story dormitory of 13,518 sq m as well as public facilities, such as badminton and basketball courts, built on the hope that students can focus on their studies in a comfortable and conducive environment.

Astra also collaborated with PT Energia Prima Nusantara to install a 0.5 Megawatt peak (MWp) rooftop solar power system atop the main building of the new ASTRAtech campus.

ASTRAtech was originally founded in 1995 as Akademi Teknik Federal (federal technical academy) and changed its name to Politeknik Manufaktur Astra (Astra manufacturing polytechnic) in 2001. In April 2021, the institution formally changed its name to Politeknik Astra, with the brand name ASTRAtech.

The institution has six D3 (associate degree) study programs and two D4 (bachelor degree) study programs that have been designed according to the technological needs of industry. In addition, ASTRAtech offers the Astra Dual Vocation system supported by the Astra Group.

ASTRAtech is the first institution in Asia to offer Germany’s Bachelor Professional (Meister) certification program in Automotive, a human resource development scheme that is credited as one of the keys to the success of Germany’s industrial competitiveness.

To date, 33 ASTRAtech students have graduated with the Bachelor Professional in Automotive degree.

ASTRAtech has several Meister-certified teachers as well as professional instructors from the Astra Group to fulfill its aim to improve the quality of its graduates.

To date, 4,057 students have graduated from ASTRAtech with an associate degree (A.Md), of which 943 students are YABI scholarship recipients. In the last five years, an average 50 percent of ASTRAtech graduates have been hired by the Astra Group, with the rest absorbed by other companies.

To realize the Society 5.0 concept, ASTRAtech has produced superior innovations through collaboration between students, lecturers and industry. Notable examples include the Astra Group's collaboration via PT Astra Otoparts's WINTEQ  to develop INNOSTRA, a multifunctional computer numerical control (CNC) machine, the heavy load trackless automated guided vehicle (AGV), with a capacity of up to 400 kilograms, and customized  5G drone services.

Astra Group's passion for contributing to the advancement of Indonesia’s vocational education, both present and future, is in line with its aspirations to prosper alongside the nation and to support Indonesia's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
